Of course when I was raised, sitting on the porch was part of life.  Now I see people sitting on the porch I assume they don't have cable or internet.  I have both and think this is the main reason I don't sit on the porch.  I have wireless internet connection and still I choose to sit in the house with the AC and big screen TV mumbling something in the background.  I remember sitting on the porch and the conversations of the elders as we swatted mosquitoes, with maybe an old radio playing in the window.  You could hear kids playing under the street lights and the women gossiping after a hard day of working, cleaning, cooking and mothering.  Those where happy go lucky times and I miss them something awful.  X

I don't sit on the porch 'cause the heat index is 104. And it's not a dry heat.

Good post. The world has changed and while we are more connected to information and entertainment via the net, we are likely less connected to those around us, including ourselves.
