» What is Disconnection Protection?

Some online cardrooms may consider a player all-in if that player loses connection to the site, allowing him to remain eligible to win the pot, until the point when disconnection occurred. Protection does not actually wager all the player's chips, but rather identifies that player as all-in so other players with cards in play may create a side pot.

Simply put, the disconnected player can win whatever was in the pot at the time of the disconnection.  And no more.

Protection can offer unscrupulous players the opportunity to intentionally disconnect after a big bet/raise and see extra cards.  Beware the angle shooter.
